Bobcat (The First Rank Each Boy Must Receive)





These requirements appear in the 2001 edition ofthe Tiger Cub Handbook (34713), and the 2003editions of the Wolf Handbook (33450),the Bear Handbook (33451), and theWebelos Handbook (33452). The only substantial change from the1998 version is the addition of the "Honesty Character Connection" in the firstrequirement.

The wording of requirement 8 in the Tiger CubHandbook and the wording of requirements 4 and 8 in the Webelos Handbook areslightly different from those in the Wolf and Bear Handbooks, but effectivelyall the versions require the same thing. The alternate wordings are shown insquare brackets [ ] below. However, what is required is the same in allcases.

Effective June 1,2006, Boys must earn the Bobcat Badge before they begin working on the Tiger Cub rank.


Bobcat Requirements

The first rank that EVERY boy MUST earn whenentering the Cub Scouting Program is the Bobcat rank.

To earn the Bobcat rank the new Cub Scout must do the following:

   1. Learn ans say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.

    On My Honor I will do my best

To do my duty to god and my Country

And to obey the Scout Law;

To Help other people at all times;

To keep myself Physically strong,

Mentally awake, and morally straight.

  

   2. Learn the Scout Law, with help if needed.

Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, Reverant

   3. Show the Cub Scout Sign. Tell what it means.

  1. Show the CUB SCOUT HANDSHAKE. Tell what it means.
  2. Say the CUB SCOUT MOTTO. A motto is a guiding principle.

"Do Your Best"

  1. Give the CUB SCOUT SALUTE.  Tell what it means.
  2. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the booklet,
    How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse.
